A Beautiful Lesson In Swapping!






WOO HOO!!!!!!

I got my May Day Tussie Mussie Swap in the mail today from my Pixie lovin Partner Michelle Cummings at Faery Dust dreams and boy did I learn a lot about swapping! When I tell you this package had me as excited as a kid on Christmas morning would be an understatement!
It all started with the package outside:

Here are a few of her lovely cards- that is beautiful Michelle in a tiara- she loves tiaras! Dang, I forgot to make her one!

Thank you Michelle, from the bottom of my heart! Everything was lovely, and your attention to detail is spot on! You taught me a lot about swapping, and I hope others get inspired by your attention to detail and how you bless your partners with your incredible talent!

Copper Bucket Vessel Sink


It all started with our house fire a few years ago. Click here for a different post on that.
The house was stripped down to the beams, so I moved walls, vaulted ceilings etc.... It's all good! Anyway, I had to order two sinks for the bathrooms. I had ordered one, and thought I had time to order the other. Well, guess what? The contractors needed them both at once of course! The sink I had ordered for the Powder room fit better upstairs so I was left without a sink! I had seen this done with a tin bucket in a magazine, so when the project manager asked me for the powder room sink, I handed him this bucket and said
"Here ya go!" He looked at me as it I had two heads, but he was finally getting used to my unorthodox decorating style.
"What am I supposed to do with this?" he asked, not really wanting to know my answer.
"Oh, just drill a hole in the center that matches the size hole that sinks usually have and install it".
"You can't do that" he said, obviously he was a linear thinker and I was challenging the core of his being...
"Yes you can, right Giuseppe? " I responded cheerfully, and turned to the contractor who loved my wacky ideas cause he knew that it would look great in his portfolio.
He nodded with approval as he whisked off with my copper pot to drill a hole in it.
So, not only did I get the cool sink I wanted, it cost me only $5 because I had the pot that I had paid a whopping $5 for a bunch of years ago! We did a "Rock Area Rug" from the pebble tiles left over from the upstairs shower, so that cost us nothing because we had to buy them for the shower and if I hadn't used them, they would have been in my garage!
The counter top was made from the peice of wood left over from my fireplace mantel, and a chunk of tree that we had to cut down now lives inside and serves as a leg.
Don't you just love THRIFTY decorating???
Another one of my "decorating things" is to paint the walls TWO different colors. In my powder room, two walls are blue and two walls are green! I started doing this when I couldn't decide which color I liked better, so I decided on both. Who says you HAVE to paint all the walls the same color? Rules schmules I say!

May Day Tussie Mussie Swap!

Hello my SpaRkLy Friends! I wish you all a Happy May Day!
So, me and the Pixies joined this "May Day Tussie Mussie Swap" from A Swap For All Seasons and our mission was to create a Tussie Mussie for our partner after finding our about her and the things that she loves. My partner was Michelle Cummings from Faerie Dust Dreams and she told me that if she were a fairy, she would not be a sweet shabby chic kinda fairy, she would be a gypsy fairy. So I had to put away my frou frou ribbons and lace and figure out a different approach! She loves birds, and I saw on her wish list somewhere that she wanted a book on antique postage stamps or something of that nature. So Here is what I came up with:

First off, I had to make a Tussie Mussie. Okay, what on earth is a tussie mussie and what do you do with it?! I looked at a bunch of pictures and came up with this design that i thought looked like it came from the forest. Having never made one before, it came out rather large- it is more like a MONSTER MUSSIE on steroids and made my "note to self" be: If I ever do one of these again, I will first remember that i will need to ship it and I don't want to have to make a box next time! It was too big to photograph in it's entirety, so here are my "parts" and you can put it together in your head. :)







Next up is a gift tag (my first one!) with a little flower topped vial of gypsy like spicy woodsy perfume oil. It's hard to tell everything apart, but maybe when Michelle posts her pics of it she can separate it so you can see it better!
Here is a group photo of several gift elements: A bag of feathers, a pile of antique pages from a book from England about postage at the time from all over the world, some birdie prints for her art.

Here is the little Pixie bird house that the pixies adorned for her with pebbles, irridescent glass blobs, beads and of course...GLITTER cause Pixies glitter everything!
Michelle told me she loves owls, so i made her one from a rock and twigs and yes...GLITTER

Here is a box topped with a nest! The nest is wire angel hair.




The feathers. The grey and red ones are from my African Grey Parrot named POPEYE.
Michelle adores Halloween, so I gave her a jump with these little guys I made for her
Well, that's about it! Sorry for posting this a day late, I was waiting for my package from Michelle but it will probably come on Monday. Her little guy has a peanut allergy and was in the hospital so she was delayed in posting. Please keep them in your prayers!
